Cedar Rapids, IA— Millikin University women's volleyball completed their weekend at Coe College with two matchups, the host Coe and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Against Coe, the Big Blue had 22 kills, 18 which were assisted by Alyssa Frederking. Defensively, the team marked 28 digs and seven total blocks.
Not able to conquer any statistical category, Millikin dropped the first match 0-3 (14-25, 12-25, 19-25) to the Kohawks.
Starting stronger against the Wisconsin Pointers, the Big Blue opened with 10 kills and 13 digs. After six ties and two lead changes, the Pointers took it all the way, finishing 25-18.
Going back and forth with an extended second set, Avaleena Stewart picked up five kills on .714% clip and Francesca Brandonisio picked up eight digs. The Pointers snagged that set 27-25, going up 2-0 in the match.
Not letting up, Millikin came out more aggressive offensively with six service aces with four from Kyra Carothers and the other two Isabelle Martinelle. Hitting .273% as a team with 11 kills, the Big Blue took the third 25-18.
The Big Blue dropped the fourth 21-25 after the Pointers hit over .500 with six total blocks.
Millikin's Stweart led the way with 12 kills on .310% hitting, Carothers and Maggye Smith both had nine kills, Gabriella Ricci added eight, and Nikkel Johnson seven.
Carrying the offense was Frederking with 34 assists with 20 digs, picking up another double-double. Defensively, Brandonisio joined her with 19 kills and Kaitlynn Hartnady with 14.
Big Blue volleyball returns home on Tuesday, September 29 for another non-conference matchup with Illinois College. First serve is set for 7pm in Griswold Center, also on the CCIW Network.
