Aurora, IL – Millikin University men's soccer continued their four-game road trip to start the season with an afternoon contest against the Spartans of Aurora University. The Big Blue would keep it close during the first half but would eventually fall 7-3.
Millikin would be the first to find the back of the net with a goal scored by
Javan Grooms in the 4th minute. Aurora would return the favor two minutes later courtesy of a goal by Carlos Viayra. The action wouldn't stop there with
Aidan Welch scoring at 07:05 to put the Big Blue back on top, 2-1.
Matthew Hart would then increase the lead to 3-1 thanks to an assist by Welch in the 15th minute. The Spartans would not be deterred, scoring goals in the 20th, 21st, and 24th minutes. Aurora would take a 4-3 lead into the half and wouldn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the game. Frankie Jimenez scored his first goal of the season to extend the lead to 5-3. The Spartans would add two more goals in the 69th minute and 85th minute to secure their victory over the Big Blue.
"We started well and showed the quality we have moving the ball," said Head Coach
Charlie Ward. "We have a few things to iron out but everyone is feeling positive despite the 0-2 start"
Men's soccer heads to Jacksonville, Illinois to take on Illinois College on Tuesday, September 8 at 5:00 pm.
