Dan Gallagher joined the Millikin staff in the summer of 2021 serving as an assistant football coach working with the Big Blue defensive backs.
Gallagher came to Millikin from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where they finished 4-1 in the shortened Spring season. In the 2021 Spring season he coached the linebackers before switching to wide receivers and helped coach All-HCAC receivers freshman Jalien Hobbs (Second Team All-HCAC) and sophomore Adam Saliu (Second Team All-HCAC). Gallagher also ran the kickoff return unit where Hobbs ranked second in kickoff return yardage in all of Division III.
In the 2019 season, Gallagher was an assistant coach at Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania. There, he worked with the defensive backs and assisted with special teams. He helped guide sophomore Joey Koroly to honorable mention PAC honors at defensive back while Koroly also made third team All-American as a Return Specialist. He also coordinated the strength and conditioning in his time at Washington and Jefferson. The Presidents finished the season 8-3 with an ECAC bowl victory in the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl.
Gallagher went on from Alfred to serve as the defensive backs coach at the University of Rochester. During the 2018 campaign, Gallagher helped coach All-Liberty League player Adam Baghi and All-UAA player Robert Grant in the defensive backfield. UR was ranked first in the Liberty League in fewest passing yards allowed per game in 2018. UR also tied a single game school record with six interceptions.
Gallagher served for one year on the Alfred University football staff in 2017, coaching the wide receivers group. He was also heavily involved in coaching special teams and creating offensive game plans for a team that posted an 8-3 record and captured the ECAC James Lynah Bowl Championship.
He attended Alfred and was a member of the football program, including playing on the 2016 team which posted a 12-1 overall record and were Empire 8 champions. The Saxon squad was the first team to post an unbeaten Empire 8 record and ended up advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Playoffs before falling to Mount Union.
Gallagher is originally from Fabius, New York. He graduated from Alfred with a bachelor’s degree in English, while minoring in Education. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sport Management from Indiana State University.
