Former Millikin wrestler Zach Whitsel joined the Big Blue staff in April 2021 serving as an assistant wrestling coach.
After starting his collegiate wrestling career at Cornell College, Whitsel wrestled from Millikin from 2015 to 2017 posting a 12-8 record in 2016-17.
Whitsel served in the United State Army from 2017-2021 as a Non-Commissioned Officer. Since 2019, Whitsel was assigned to the 410th Civil Affairs Battalion, Alpha Company.
Whitsel graduated with honors from American Military University with a Bachelors of Arts in Emergency and Disaster Management.
While in the Army, Whitsel has been coaching for the Techfall Wrestling Club in El Paso, Texas where he had multiple state place finishers including two female state champions and one male champion and one male state runner-up. Whitsel competed in the 2019 U.S. Open for Freestyle.
In addition to assisting with the Millikin program, Whitsel works for the Macon County Emergency Management and is a member of the Argenta-Oreana Fire Department.
