Millikin Swimming Opens Season

  The Millikin swimming team opened the 2015-16 season with a double dual meet at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on October 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
          The Millikin women defeated Manchester University 162-74, but lost to Rose-Hulman 149-100. The Big Blue men lost to Manchester 120-67 and to Rose-Hulman 206-30.
          Millikin senior Shelby Kobs opened the season strong winning the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:12.17, finishing first in the 200 Yard IM in 2:23.77 and coming home in second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:39.50.
Freshman Caroline Lodovisi was a double event winner in her debut. Lodovisi won the 200 Yard Butterfly 2:19.19 and the 100 Yard Butterfly in 1:03.41.
          Sophomore Sami Battle won the 100 Yard Freestyle in 56.32 and finished in second in the 50 Yard Freestyle in 25.13.
Millikin sophomore Felicity Speirs was second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle in 11:59.51.
          The Big Blue women won the 400 Yard Freestyle in 4:00.24 with Lodovisi, Speirs, Emily Nielsen and Battle swimming legs.
          Highlight of the night for the Millikin men was winning the 400 Yard Freestyle in 3:36.51. Spencer McGowan, Tyler Via, Keegan Duesterhaus and Matthew Vanguten swam legs for the Big Blue.
          Duesterhaus was third in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 2:02.50.
          McGowan was third in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 57.29.
          Next up for Millikin is the Illinois Wesleyan Halloween Invite on October 31.
