Big Blue Football Falls at Carthage

         The Millikin football team lost at Carthage College 36-17 on October 31 at a rainy and cold Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
         Carthage opened the scoring on an 18 yard pass from Ethan Olles to Tommy Bazarek.  Carthage missed the extra point and took a 6-0 advantage.
         The Big Blue answer right back with a 27 yard pass from senior quarterback Nick Pippin to senior Taylor SandersChayce Volpert's extra point gave the Big Blue a 7-6 advantage.  Pippin started for the Big Blue in place of the injured Nicco Stepina.
         Millikin would then take the lead early in the second quarter when Pippin hit senior wide receiver Brady Cufaude on an 18 yard pass to make it 14-6.
         Carthage made it a 14-13 game on a 15 yard pass from Olles to Eddie Miklascz.  The Red Men then went ahead 16-14 on a 33 yard field goal from Lance Unland with 1:34 left to play in the half.
         The Big Blue quickly moved down the field and regained the advantage on a 33 yard field goal from Volpert to make it 17-16 with five seconds left in the half.
         Carthage broke open the game with two third quarter touchdown runs.  Nick Anzelmo scored on a 34 yard run to make it 22-17.  On its next series, the Red Men's London Townsend scored on an 80 run to make it 29-17.
         The Carthage rushing attack was the difference in the game especially in the second half when the Red Men controlled the clock.  Carthage rushed for 346 yards including gaining 182 yards in each half. 
         The Millikin offense couldn't getting anything going in the second half as Carthage blitzed the Big Blue in all passing situations sacking Pippin four times.
         Carthage had 528 yards in total offense and limited Millikin to 170 yards.
The Big Blue had 156 yards passing and only 14 yards rushing.
         Pippin was 13-31-1 for 156 yard and two scores.  Cufaude had four catches for 55 yards.
         Townsend led Carthage's rushing attack with 136 yards on 10 carries.
         Freshman Isaiah Tate led the Big Blue in tackles with 12.
         K.J. Simpson led the Carthage defense with seven tackles.
         Millikin is now 2-6, 1-4 while Carthage goes to 4-4,3-2.
         The Big Blue travel to Elmhurst College on Nov. 7 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
