The Millikin men's basketball team lost to Rhodes College 85-67 at the` Rhodes College Thanksgiving Tournament held in Memphis, Tennessee on November 29.
Rhodes jumped out to an early advantage using a 9-0 run to build a 14-5 lead. Millikin fought back the entire half taking its first lead with 3:23 left in the first on a
Leighton Lark layup to make it 27-26. After a Lynx basket, the Big Blue's
Elijah Kinmon's three gave Millikin a 29-27 advantage with 2:05 left in the half. Rhodes scored seven straight to close out the half and lead 34-29 at the half.
The second half was all Rhodes with Millikin unable to mount a comeback due to the lack offensive opportunities. Millikin shot the ball well hitting on 49 percent of its shots, but the Big Blue were shut out of second chance opportunities pulling down only two offensive rebounds in the game.
Rhodes shoot 62.5 percent from the field including going 9-19 from three point range. Rhodes out rebounded Millikin 32-20.
Millikin's top scorer was
Tommy Pilackas with 16 points followed by
Elijah Kinmon with 11 points.
TJ Griffin had 10. Kinmon had a team high five rebounds.
Aquil Muhammad and Brennan Sullivan led Rhodes with 20 points.
Millikin is now 3-4 while Rhodes goes to 3-3.
Mililkin will be back home on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. hosting Earlham College.
