Millikin Swimmers Turn in Solid Performance at Illinois College

  The Millikin men's and women's swimming team performed well at the Illinois College Quad Meet held on November 7 in Jacksonville, Illinois.
          The meet was scored as three separate duals for the Big Blue. The Millikin women won all three of its duals winning over Illinois College 136.50-72.50, downing Knox College 125-90 and defeating Principia College 130-61. The Millikin men defeated Knox 99-72, but lost to Illinois College 120-75 and to Principia 89-82.
          In the women's competition, Millikin senior Shelby Kobs, sophomore Sami Battle and freshman Caroline Lodovisi all won two individual events and swam legs on two winning relays.
          Kobs won the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:12.75 and the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:44.90.
Battle won the 50 Yard Freestyle in 26.09 and won the 100 Yard Freestyle in 57.60.
Lodovisi won the 200 Yard Butterfly in 2:21.42 and the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:47.70.
          The Millikin women won the 200 Yard Medley in 1:59.58 with Emily Nielsen, Kobs, Lodovisi and Battle swimming legs. The Big Blue won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in 1:49.51 with Kobs, Felicity Speirs, Lodovisi and Battle all participating.
          Speirs was second in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 2:13.72.
Nielsen was second in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:10.48.
          In the men's competition, sophomore Spencer McGowan was a double event winner finishing in first in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 57.64 and the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:12.76.
          Keegan Duesterhaus finished in second in the 1650 Yard Freestyle in 20:28.25 and second in the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:50.76.
Chris O'Grady was second in the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle in 2:04.83
Matthew Vangunten was second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:09.63.
          Millikin will travel to Franklin College on November 14 to compete against the Grizzlies and Coe College.
