Big Blue Men's Basketball Edged by Augustana

    For the second time this season, the Millikin men's basketball teams upset bid against nationally ranked Augustana came up just short.  The Big Blue lost at #11 Augustana College 73-65 on Feb. 14 in Rock Island, Illinois.
    Millikin hung with the first place Vikings throughout the game.  Augustana took a 36-34 lead into halftime.  The second half remained close with the game tied for the ninth time at 50-50 with 8:51 left to play.  Millikin would go up 53-50 on a TJ Sims basket and a Jacob Kueker free throw before the Vikings tied the game at 53-53 with just over six minutes remaining.  Millikin would answer with a basket by Sims and  three pointer by Elijah Kimon to make it 58-54 Big Blue with 5:44 left in the game.  Millikin would lead by five with 4:16 remaining before the Vikings rallied. Tayvian Johnson and Hunter Hill hit back-to-back jumpers to put Augustana back on top at 67-65 with 59 seconds left to play.  The Vikings would hit six free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
    Millikin shot 50 percent from the field while the Vikings made 44 percent of its shots.  The Vikings had the advantage from three point range making 6-23 while Millikin was 2-12.  Augustana out rebounded Millikin 36-30.
    Millikin had a balanced attack with four players in double figures led by Sims with 18 and TJ Griffin with 16.  Nathan Biggs had 14 points and a team high eight rebounds.  Zach Long scored 11 points.
    Hill led the Vikings with 24 points.
    The Vikings win coupled with an Illinois Wesleyan loss, put Augustana alone in first place in the CCIW with a 10-3 rebounds.  Augustana is 20-4 overall.
    Millikin falls to 8-16, 3-10.  The Big Blue lost to then number one Augustana 71-68 in Decatur in January.
    Millikin will host Carthage College on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. to wrap up the 2014-15 season.
