Millikin Women’s Basketball Loses to IWU

The Millikin women's basketball team lost a crucial road game at Illinois Wesleyan 83-76 on February 4 in Bloomington, Illinois.  Millikin goes to 13-8 overall and 4-6 in the CCIW.  The loss drops Millikin into a fifth place tie with the Big Blue's next opponent North Park University.  The top four teams in the conference make the CCIW Tournament.  The Titans improve to 9-12, 3-7.
Turnovers were the story of the game for the short-handed Big Blue.  Millikin committed 34 turnovers against the Titan pressure defense while Illinois Wesleyan committed only nine.  Millikin played the game without starting point guard Rachael Weber and top reserve Hannah Millington who both missed the contest due to injury.
Illinois Wesleyan had a 42-35 advantage at the half and the two teams played even in the second half with each scoring 41 points.
Millikin shot 62 percent from the field including six of 10 from three point range.  The Titans shot 39 percent from the field, but hit on 23-35 from the free throw line.  Millikin connected on 12-18 from the line.  The Big Blue won the rebounding battle 41-28.
Kelsey Going led Millikin with 23 points on 10-11 from the field and a 3-3 night from the free throw line.   Holly Haskins added 19 points and Yip Ypya had 13.  Going, Haskins and Alyssa Saklak each had eight rebounds.
The Titans top scorer was Molly McGraw with a career high 25 points.  Kasey Reaber and Shelby Gray each had 15.
Millikin will host North Park on Saturday, February 7 at 5 p.m. for their annual Pink Game.  With only four games remaining including next week's game against first place Wheaton, the Big Blue need a win over the Vikings to keep their conference tournament hopes alive.
