Millikin Baseball Drops Home Doubleheader

          The Millikin baseball team dropped its home opening doubleheader to Washington University-St. Louis on March 17 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Ill.  The Bears won game one 16-5 and took the nightcap 11-7.
          After each team scored in the opening inning in game one, Washington University broke the game open with an eight run third inning.  The story in game one for the Bears was Brian Cizek who went 3-4 with two homeruns and a double driving home six runs.  Chris Lowery was 3-5 with three RBIs.  Liam Cotter was the winning pitcher.
          Frank Barnes led the Millikin offense going 3-3 with his first homerun of the season and three RBIs.  Seth Coffey was 2-3.
          Washington University jumped out to an early lead in game two, but the Big Blue battled back.  The Bears scored four runs in the first and two in the second.  Millikin answered back with one in the first and two in the second.  Millikin would pull to within one at 8-7 after a three run six inning, but the Bears scored one in the seventh and two in the ninth to secure the win.
          Leadoff man Austin Darmawan was 4-4 with four runs scored to propel Washington University in game two.  Lowery had two more hits and drove home three.  Brandon Deger was 3-6 with two RBIs.  Scott Nelson was the winning pitcher with Dom Quaranta earning his second save of the season allowing only two hits over the final three innings.
          Freshman Kaleb Krigbaum was 3-4 for Millikin with an RBI.  Joey DiLeo was 2-4 including his first homerun of the season and had two RBIS.  Brian Ekiss and Barnes each had two hits.
          Millikin is now 3-4 on the season and Washington University-St. Louis improves to 9-3.
          Millikin will play a doubleheader at Fontbonne University in St. Louis on Wednesday and then be back home on March 21 to host Dominican University in a 1 p.m. twin bill.
