Game Recap: Baseball |

Big Blue Baseball Wins Fifth Straight Before Dropping Game

The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana on March 22.  The game one win was the Big Blue fifth straight win.
Millikin won game one 4-3.  Wabash jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with Millikin answering with a single run in the third.  The Little Gaints went up 3-1 in bottom of the third, but Millikin rallied with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull out the victory.
Big Blue freshman catcher Hunter Wenstrom opened the Millikin scoring with a homerun to lead off the third inning.  In the fifth inning Kaleb Krigbaum had an RBI single for Millikin and Clayton Welker scored on a Wabash error after doubling earlier in the inning.  In the sixth Julian Gutierrez started the Millikin scoring rally with a two out single.  He stolen second base and scored on a Cody Blunk RBI single.
Senior pitcher Sean Beal went to 3-0 on the seaon throwing six innings scattering five hits and allowing two earned runs.  Ben Peters picked up his third save of the season with a perfect inning.
David Oliger led Wabash going 2-3 at the plate.
The game one win marked the first time since the 2005 season that Millikin had won five games in a row.
Millikin took its bid for sixth in a row to extra innings before losing game two 5-4 in 10 innings.  The Big Blue were trying to win six straight for the first time since 1990.
Millikin opened the game two scoring with a single run on a sacrifice fly from Frank Barnes in the first inning.  Joey DiLeo's sacrifice fly would make it 2-1 Millikin in the third inning.  Millikin would break a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning when Blunk doubled and scored on a wild pitch by the Little Gaints.
Wabash tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth after a Millikin error.  The Big Blue regained the lead in the top of the 10th inning when Frank Barnes doubled and later scored on an RBI double by Connor Shaw.
Justin Green had a game winning two run single in the 10th to lift Wabash.
Brian Ekiss had three hits to pace the Big Blue.  Krigbaum and Barnes each had two hits.  Millikin starter Kyle Davidson pitched well throwing eight and two-thirds innings allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out six.
The Big Blue are now 8-5 while Wabash goes to 7-8.
Millikin plays at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois on Tuesday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
