Millikin Softball Sweeps at Monmouth

    The Millikin softball team scored a doubleheader sweep at Monmouth College on March 22 in Monmouth, Illinois.  Millikin won game one 9-5 and took game two 4-3.
    Millikin scored two runs in the first inning of game one.  Monmouth tied the game at 2-2 after three innings, but Millikin scored three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to pull away for the win.
    Alyssa Visvardis led the Millikin offense in game with going 3-4 with six RBIs including a grand slam in the sixth inning.  Nicole Koch was 3-3 at the plate.  Becca Thompson and Alyssa Voegele each had two hits.  Cathy Lebryk was the inning pitcher.
    Johnna Schultz and Charlotte Park each had three hits for Monmouth in game one.
    Visvardis spurred the Millikin offense in game two.  She had a two run single in the third inning to open the Millikin scoring.  Thompson tripled home Millikin's third run in the fifth inning.  Visvardis drove home the game winning run in the seventh with a single.  Heather Doyle was the winning pitcher for Millikin allowing two earned runs over seven innings.
    Schultz had two hits for Monmouth in game two.
    Millikin is now 8-10 while Monmouth goes to 4-7.
    The Big Blue will be Wisconsin-Stevens Point on March 28 at 1 p.m.
