Big Blue Baseball Drops Road Doubleheader

    The Millikin baseball team lost a road doubleheader at North Central College on March 31 in Naperville, Illinois.  The Cardinals won game one 6-4 and took game two 12-2.
    In game one, Millikin opened the scoring in the third inning.  Clayton Welker singled and moved to third on a Kaleb Krigbaum double.  Welker then scored on an RBI single by Brian Ekiss.
    The Cardinals answered with one run in the bottom of the third and then added three runs in the fourth and single runs in the sixth and seventh to build a 6-1 advantage.
    Millikin battled back with three runs in the eighth inning.  Jake Stanton opened the inning with a single and moved to third on a double by Lucas Stefan.  Stanton scored on a run scoring single by Anthony RendinaMichael Guddendorf then drove home Stefan with a sacrifice fly.  Rendina would close out the Big Blue scoring reaching home on a wild pitch.
    Krigbaum led the Millikin offense going 3-5.  Frank Barnes collected two hits for Millikin.
    Sam Carius had three hits for the Cardinals with two RBIs.  Vito DeRango and Joe Paparone each homered for North Central.  Evan Blunk was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals.
    Game two was all North Central with Millikin being limited to just three hits.  Lucas Stefan was had Millikin's lone run batted in with a run scoring double in the second inning.  
    DeRango and Nick Brandt each had three hits to pace the Cardinals.  DeRango had three RBIs.  Andrew Houser was the winning pitcher throw six innings allowing three hits and one earned run.    
    Millikin is now 9-10, 1-4 while North Central improves to 10-9, 3-2.
    The Big Blue host North Park for a weekend series starting with a doubleheader on April 3 at 1 p.m. at Sunnyside Park.
