Big Blue Baseball Falls in Extra Innings

          The Millikin baseball team lost 5-4 in 10 innings to North Central College on April 8 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning on a run scoring single by freshman Julian Gutierrez.
          The Cardinals answered back with two runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth inning. 
          The Big Blue would battle back in the late innings scoring two in the seventh when Brian Ekiss drove home a run with a hit by pitch with the bases load and Jake Stanton drove home a run with a fielder's choice groundout.  Millikin tied the game in the eighth inning.  Gutierrez opened the inning with a double.  Lucas Stefan laid down a perfect bunt down the third base line with Gutierrez coming home to score on a throwing error by the Cardinals third baseman Zach Jarosz.
          North Central scored the game winner in the top of the 10th inning.  Chris Hill opened the inning with a double and scored one out later on a base hit by Jake Rone.
          Guitierrez, Stefan and Cody Blunk each had two hits for Millikin.
          Rone paced the North Central lineup getting three hits and driving home three runs.  Hill also had three hits and scored three runs. 
          The Cardinals Jordan Van Kyck was the winning pitcher in relief throwing three scoreless innings allowing only one hit.
          Ben Peters took the loss for the Big Blue in relief.
          Millikin is now 11-12, 3-6 while North Central goes to 13-10, 6-3. 
          The Big Blue have a doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois on April 11 starting at 1 p.m.
