Big Blue Men’s Basketball’s Rally Falls Short

          The Millikin men's basketball team rally fell just short as the Big Blue fell to North Park University 77-71 on January 16 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin started the game with an 8-0 run, but the North Park Vikings went on a 10-2 run of its own to tie the game at 10-10 with 14 minutes left in the first half.  The Vikings would then build to a 35-29 advantage at halftime.
          Millikin stayed with the Vikings in the second half, with the largest North Park lead being 12 points.  Millikin's got a layup and free throw from T.J. Sims with 1:55 left in the game to make it a 69-65 Viking advantage.  After North Park missed a free throw the Big Blue's Bryn Agew's baseline jumper brought Millikin to within two at 69-67 with 1:30 left in the game.  North Park would push the advantage back up to 72-67 with 54 seconds remaining.  Sims scored for the Big Blue to make it 72-69 Vikings with 49 seconds remaining.  Millikin made a final defensive stand, but North Park's Colin Lake sealed the victory when he hit a three-pointer with just two seconds left on the shot clock to make it a six point advantage with 21 seconds left in the game.  T.J. Griffin made it a four point game with four seconds left, but T.J. Cobbs hit two free throws for the Vikings with one second remaining to make it 77-71.
          North Park shot 52 percent from the field and went 15-21 from the free throw line.  Millikin shot 49 percent and was 11-12 from the line.  North Park won the rebounding battle 33-26.
          Millikin's top scorer was Sims with 25 points.  Tommy Pilackas had 16 points and six rebounds and Griffin added 11 points.
          Juwan Henry had 26 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead North Park.  Jordan Robinson added 11 and Cobbs had 10.
          Millikin is now 6-10, 0-5 while North Park improves to 11-5, 2-2.
          The Big Blue will travel to Wheaton College on Wednesday, January 20 for a 7 p.m. game.
