Big Blue Men’s Basketball Drops Road Game at Wheaton

          The Millikin men's basketball team lost at Wheaton College 87-76 on January 20 in Wheaton, Illinois.
          The game was a tight contest throughout with the game being tied on 10 different occasions.  Millikin opened up a lead as large as five points in the first half, before the Thunder rallied to take a 39-38 advantage at the half.  The game's final tie game with 7:24 remaining at 64-64.  Then Wheaton jumped back on top, but Millikin kept it a one possession game until the game's final four minutes.  Millikin's Bryn Agnew hit a layup to make it 70-69 Thunder with 4:32 left in the game.  The Thunder then closed out the game with a 17-7 run with Wheaton converting 15-18 from the free throw line.  Fifteen of Wheaton's final 17 points came at the line.
          Wheaton hit on 56 percent from the field and went 27-32 (85 percent) from the free throw line.  Millikin hit 44 percent of its shots from the field and went 13-17 (76.5 percent) from the free throw line.  Wheaton out rebounded the Big Blue 41-39.
          Millikin had four players in double figures in scoring led by T.J. Sims with 20 points.  T.J. Griffin had 16 followed by Tommy Pilackas with 14 and Agnew with 10.  Pilackas had a team high seven rebounds.
          Wheaton's top scorer was Michael Berg with 27 points and 11 rebounds.  Jonathan Berntsen scored 18 followed by Ricky Samuelson with 17.
          Millikin falls to 6-11, 0-6 while Wheaton goes to 5-12, 1-5.  The Thunder win continues Millikin's woes at Wheaton where the Big Blue have not won since 1994.
          Millikin travels to #3 Augustana College on January 23 at 7 p.m.
