Big Blue Women’s Basketball Falls in Shootout

          The Millikin women's basketball team lost a high scoring contest 91-81 to North Central College on January 6 in the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.  Millikin is now 7-6, 0-2 while North Central goes to 7-6, 1-1.
          North Central's fast paced game with full court pressure defense made for a wild game that featured 164 shots from the field, 110 total rebounds and 59 turnovers.  Millikin hit on 45 percent from the field compared to the Cardinals 36 percent.  The Cardinals took 22 more shots than the Big Blue putting on 93 shots in the game including 52 three pointers.  Millikin was 4-11 from three point range (36 percent) compared to 19 percent (10-52) for North Central.  Each team had 48 rebounds.  Millikin committed 37 turnovers and the Cardinals had 22.
          Alyssa Saklak led the Big Blue with 23 points and 15 rebounds.  Senior Kelsey Going added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Big Blue.  Freshman Cassie Somers had 16 points along with four assists.
          North Central was led by Mayson Whipple with 16 points followed by Therese and Anita Sterling each with 13 points.
          North Central led 29-17 at the end of the first quarter and built a 42 advantage at the half.
          Millikin will be back in action on Saturday at 5 p.m. hosting Elmhurst College.
