Big Blue Women’s Basketball Loses to Elmhurst

          The Millikin women's basketball team lost to Elmhurst College 88-73 on January 9 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.  Elmhurst improved to 8-6, 2-1 while Millikin went to 7-7, 0-3.
          Both teams shot the ball very well in a fast paced first half.  Elmhurst lead 29-23 at the end of the first quarter and 51-30 at halftime.  The Bluejays shot 62.5 percent in the first half including going six for six from three-point range.  Millikin hit 42 percent from the field, but went 0-6 from beyond the arc.
          Millikin slowed down the Elmhurst offense in the second half outscoring the Bluejays in the third quarter 27-19.  Elmhurst held off Millikin in the fourth quarter with an 18-16 scoring advantage. 
          For the game Elmhurst hit 57 percent from the field and 67 percent (8-12) from three-point range.  Millikin shot 51 percent from the field, but struggled from three-point land going 2-12 (17 percent).  Elmhurst won the rebounding battle 31-24.
          Seniors Alyssa Saklak and Kelsey Going led the Big Blue attack.  Saklak had 18 points and four rebounds while Going chipped in 17 points and four rebounds.  Cassie Somers, Alex Capeles and Emma Hoyer each had nine points for Millikin.  Rachael Weber had a team high five rebounds and five assists along with four points.
          Mikaela Eppard led Elmhurst with 25 points and eight rebounds.  Claire Monroe had 15 points.  Erika Johnson added 13 and Kaela Jones had 12.
          Millikin will travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, January 13 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
