Big Blue Men’s Basketball’s Upset Bid Falls Short

          The Millikin men's basketball team bid to upset ninth ranked North Central College fell just short at the Big Blue lost 73-67 on December 10 in the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          The first half was a tight one with the biggest lead belonging to North Central at four points.  Millikin led 35-32 with three minutes remaining in the first half, before North Central went on a 4-0 to close out the half with a 36-35 advantage.
          Millikin came out strong in the second half and built a 47-40 lead with 14:48 left in the game.  The Big Blue then went through an eight minute stretch were they couldn't find a way to score making only one basket during the span.  North Central battled back and took the lead for good at 50-49 with 7:21 remaining.
          Millikin hit on 43 percent from the field including 39 percent (9-23) from three point range.  North Central hit on 49 percent from the field had made 6-13 (46 percent) from three point range.  North Central scored 23 points from the free throw line in the second half hitting 29-42 from the line overall.  Millikin was 8-12 on the game.  North Central out rebounded Millikin 33-26.
          Millikin had four players in double figures led by Tyler Pygon with 13 and Jack Simpson and Jordan Cunningham each with 12.  Freshman Zach Fisher added 10 points.  Logan Bader had a team high five rebounds.
          Connor Raridon led North Central with 21 points and nine rebounds.  Alex Sorenson had 14 points and seven boards.
          North Central improves to 5-2, 2-1 while Millikin falls to 0-8, 0-2.
          The Big Blue will take a few days off for final exams before returning the court at Rose-Hulman on December 19.
