Big Blue Men Win Second Straight

         The Millikin men's basketball team returned to action after the holiday break with a 68-63 win over Calvin College in tournament action at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio on December 29.
         The Big Blue broke open a tight game late in the first half and went into halftime up 34-25 after a half court buzzer beater from Jack Simpson.
         Millikin lead the entire second half.  Calvin fought its way back in the game and pulled to within two at 49-47 with 8:37 left in the game.  Big Blue freshman Zach Fisher hit two straight three pointers to give Millikin a 58-49 advantage with 4:23 remaining.  Calvin then went on its on 5-0 run and pulled to 58-54 on a three pointer from Tony Dewitte with 3:33 left in the game.  Simpson then hit a three for the Big Blue, but Dewitte answered with another three to make it a 61-57.  Millikin's Korbin Farmer had a big rebound and basket with 2:07 left to give Millikin a 63-57 advantage.  The Big Blue held on down the stretch with Fisher scoring four of Millikin's last five points.
         Millikin hit 42 percent from the field and 48 percent (13-27) from three point range.  Calvin hit on 40 percent from the field, but managed only 22 percent from beyond the arc.  Calvin won the rebounding battle 38-35. 
         Fisher lead Millikin with 16 points including going 4-7 from three point range.  Simpson scored 14 points including making all four three pointers he attempted.  Simpson also had five assists.  Nathan Lovekamp came off the bench to score 12 points.  Tyler Pygon was Millikin's top rebounder with eight.
         Mike Siegel was Calvin's top scorer with 19 points and six rebounds.  Cam Denney had a double double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
         Millikin is now 2-8 while Calvin goes to 4-6.
         The Big Blue will play in the Championship game on Friday, December 30 at 7 p.m. ET against either Wittenberg or Geneva College.
