Millikin Baseball Opens with Win

         The Millikin baseball team opened the 2016 season with an 11-2 win at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri on February 27.
         Fontbonne jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Steven Belovich scoring Aaron Boyer.
         Millikin answered with four runs in the fourth inning.  Julian Gutierrez opened the inning with a walk.  After advancing to second on an errant pickoff attempt, Gutierrez scored on a run scoring single by Jake Stanton.  After a single by Lucas Sefan, Kaleb Krigbaum drove home Stanton with a double.  Anthony Rendina's two run double scored Stefan and Krigbaum to make it 4-1 Millikin.
         Gutierrez homered in the fifth to put the Big Blue up 5-1.
         Millikin would score five runs in the seventh.  The scoring started on an RBI double by Gutierrez.  Krigbaum and freshman Ryne Bundy each had two run singles.
         Krigbaum was 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.  Stefan was 3-4 with two runs scored.  Gutierrez and Rendina each had two hits and two RBIs for the Big Blue.
         Phil Ganley earned the win on the mound pitching five innings and allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts.  Freshman Adam Zuk earned the save holding the Griffin's hitless over the final four innings while striking out six.
         Ethan Boyer had two hits for Fontbonne.
