Millikin Men’s Basketball Knocks Off IWU

          The Millikin men's basketball team scored a major road win knocking off Illinois Wesleyan University 61-59 on February 3 at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois.  The win ended Millikin's nine game losing streak on the season and broke a 13 game losing streak against the Titans.  Prior to tonight, Millikin's last win in the series was in February 2009.  The Big Blue's last win in Bloomington was an 84-82 win on January 10, 2007.
          The first 15 minutes of the game was a back-and-fourth contest with each team holding a lead.  Millikin's Nick Novak broke a 21-21 tie with a three-pointer with 4:56 left in the half to give the Big Blue a lead and start a 17-5 Millikin run to close out the first half.  Big Blue senior T.J. Griffin would score eight points during the run.  Millikin lead 38-26 at the half.
           Millikin maintained a lead in the second half until 3:23 left in the game as the Titans' Trevor Seibring converted a layup and free throw to tie the game at 57-57.  Tommy Pilackas put Millikin up 59-57 with two minutes left to go, but Illinois Wesleyan answered back and two free throws by Andy Stempel to tie the game at 59-59 with 1:42 remaining.  Pilackas hit the game winner with 44 seconds remaining on an assist from Griffin. 
          Millikin shot 51 percent (26-51) from the field while Illinois Wesleyan hit on 45 percent (18-40).  Millikin was 4-11 from three point range while the Titans wend 5-13.  Millikin overcame a deficit at the free throw line with the Titans hitting 18-27 (67 percent) while Millikin went 5-7.  Each team had 27 rebounds including each pulling down five offensive and 22 defensive boards. 
          Millikin's top scorer was Griffin with 21 points and two assists.  Fifteen of Griffin's points game in the first half.  T.J. Sims added 13 points.  Pilackas finished with six.
Bryn Agew had a team high six rebounds along with four points.  Leighton Lark had five boards and five points.
          Seibring led Illinois Wesleyan with 19 points and five rebounds.  Alec Bausch had 10 points and five rebounds.
          Millikin is now 7-14, 1-9 while Illinois Wesleyan falls to 11-10, 5-5. 
          The Big Blue travel to North Park University on Saturday, February 6.
