Big Blue Baseball Wins Again

          The Millikin baseball team won its fourth straight game defeating Western Connecticut State 6-5 at Terry Park in Fort Myers, Florida on March 22.  The Big Blue are now 6-1 while Western Connecticut goes to 5-4.
          Millikin jumped out to an early lead and they held off a late rally for the win.  The Big Blue had single runs in each of the first two innings.  Devin Crews singled home Luke Azzarelli in the first inning and Azzerelli drove him Keith Askins in the second.
          Millikin went up 4-0 in the third with Julian Gutierrez tripling home a run and Frank Barnes driving home Gutierrez.
          Millikin added to its lead in the fourth and fifth innings with single runs in each inning.  Lucus Stefan had an RBI single in the fourth and Adam Peters had a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth.  Millikin would need all six runs as Western Connecticut rallied with one run in the fourth and fourth runs in the eighth.
          Millikin's top four hitters each picked up two hits including Azzarelli, Seth Coffey, Gutierrez and Barnes.
          Freshman Brandon Viken was the winning pitcher in relief earning his second win of the season.  Joe Davi was solid as a starter allowing one run on four hits over four and two-thirds innings.  Ben Peters earned the save setting a new Millikin record for career saves at eight.  It is Peters third save this season. 
          Chris Callahan and Matt Greene each went 2-4 to lead the Western Connecticut attack.
           The Millikin JV team also defeated Western Connecticut 14-3.
          The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in a game added to the Big Blue schedule.
