Pulver Pitches Big Blue to Fifth Straight Win

          Behind the shutout pitching of freshman Owen Pulver, the Millikin baseball team won its fifth straight game defeating Western Connecticut State 6-0 in Fort Myers, Florida on March 23. Millikin is now 7-1 on the season and the Colonials go to 5-5.
          Making his first collegiate start, Pulver pitched nine innings allowing seven hits and no runs while striking out eight.
          Millikin opened its scoring in the second inning with an RBI single from Keith Askins.  The Big Blue put up three runs in the sixth inning.  Millikin scored on run scoring singles from Lucas Stefan and Joey DiLeo.  DiLeo scored thanks to an error later in the inning.
          Julian Gutierrez hit his second homer of the season to make it 5-0 Big Blue in the seventh inning.  Mason Bruce singled home Seth Coffey for Millikin's final run in the ninth.
          Askins led the Millikin attack going 3-4.  Bruce and Kaleb Krigbaum each had two hits.
          John Kelly had two hits for Western Connecticut.
          Millikin's 7-1 start to the season is the best start for a Big Blue team since 1990 when Millikin opened 8-1. 
          The Big Blue will play Wisconsin-Platteville on Thursday in Fort Myers shooting for its sixth straight win a feat that hasn't been accomplished by a Big Blue baseball team since 1990.
