Big Blue Baseball Loses in Florida

          The Millikin baseball team suffered its first defeat during its Florida trip falling to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 16-5 in eight innings on March 24 in Fort Myers, Florida.  The Big Blue, playing its sixth game in five games, falls to 7-2 while the Pioneers improve to 8-2.
        Millikin's Luke Azzarelli opened the game with a single and after a successful sacrifice bunt by Seth Coffey scored on a Julian Gutierrez base hit.  After a Frank Barnes double, the Big Blue again played small ball with Gutierrez scoring on a sacrifice bunt by Mason Bruce making it 2-0 Millikin.
           The Big Blue scored two more in the second.  Keith Askins and Kaleb Krigbaum singled to open the inning.  After a successful sacrifice by Anthony Rendina, Askins scored on a Pioneers wild pitch.  Coffey then doubled home Krigbaum. 
          Wisconsin-Platteville scored eight runs in the third inning highlighted by a three-run homerun by Jonny Frese to take an 8-4 advantage.
          Millikin's Barnes tripled and scored on a Lucas Stefan base hit to make it 8-5 in the fifth inning.
          The Pioneers then put the game out of reach with a five run fifth inning before tacking on one more in the sixth and two in the eighth.
          Barnes was 3-4 for Millikin with two doubles and a triple.  Stefan had two hits for the Big Blue.
          Evan Greco went 2-4 for the Pioneers with a triple, homerun, three RBIs and three runs scored.  Frese was 2-3 with three RBIs.
          Millikin will wrap up its Florida trip taking on Saint John's University on Friday, March 25 in a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m. ET.
