Big Blue Baseball Splits Doubleheader

         The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader with Saint John's University on March 25 in its final day of action at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. 
         In game one, Millikin took a first inning lead on a two-run home run by Frank Barnes.  The Big Blue added two runs in the second with the help of two Johnnies' errors.  A two run single by Julian Gutierrez gave Millikin a 4-2 lead after four.  The team's exchanged runs in the sixth inning with Kaleb Krigbaum using his speed scoring after stolen base and a Saint John's throwing error.
         Krigbaum and Keith Askins had two hits for Millikin.
         Phil Ganley was the winning pitcher throwing five and two-thirds innings allowing five hits and three runs.  Ben Peters earned the save holding off a late Johnnies rally.
         Logan Hersey led Saint John's going 3-4 in the game one.
         In game two, Millikin jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after two innings.  Seth Coffey singled and Gutierrez doubled in the first inning.  Barnes had a fielder's choice RBI and Gutierrez scored on a wild pitch.  In the second inning Devin Crews doubled and scored on an RBI single by Joey DiLeo. 
         Gutierrez and Crews each had two hits for Millikin.
         The Johnnies scored two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to pull out the comeback win.  Pat Lloyd was 3-3 for the Saint John's with an RBI.
Cole Weaver and Pat Keller each had two hits.
         Millikin is now 8-3 on the season and Saint John's goes to 11-5.
         The Big Blue will return to action on March 29 at Blackburn College.  Millikin's home opener is scheduled for March 30 at 4 p.m. against Blackburn.
