Big Blue Baseball Picks Up 10th Win of Season

         The Millikin baseball team scored a come from behind victory over Blackburn College 7-6 on March 31 at the home opener at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.  Millikin is now 10-3 on the season while Blackburn goes to 4-14.
         Blackburn got on the board with a single run in the first inning, but Millikin responded taking a 2-1 lead in the second inning.  Lucas Stefan got the Big Blue on the board with a solo homerun.  Kaleb Krigbaum drove home Anthony Rendina who had singled.
         Blackburn answered with three in the third inning with Joey Szerletich driving home two runs on a single.  The Beavers added a run in the sixth and went up 6-3 in the seventh on a homerun by Matt Mokriakow.
         Millikin scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead.  Jake Stanton tied the game with a three-run homer.  Seth Coffey had the game winning RBI driving home Ryne Bundy.
         Coffey, Stefan and Anthony Rendina each had two hits for Millikin.  Freshman centerfielder Mason Bruce had one hit for Millikin and cut down two Blackburn runners at the plate ending two different Beaver rallies.
         Zak Owens picked up the win in relief for Millikin.  Ben Peters earned the save pitching out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning and pitching a perfect ninth inning.  Peters now has five saves on the season tying his own school record for saves in a season.  Peters now has 10 career saves building on his own record for saves in a career.
         Blackburn's Mokriakow, Shane Lewis and Jared Jones each had three hits.
         Millikin opens College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Friday, April 1 at Wheaton College.  The Big Blue will also face the Thunder in a doubleheader on Saturday.
