Millikin Baseball Defeats Bluejays to Win Series

After splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, the Millikin baseball team defeated Elmhurst College 15-7 on April 10 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.
The win gives the Big Blue two out of three in the conference series.
Sunday's game was moved to 10 a.m. trying to beat the forecast rain.  First pitch was 9:45 a.m. with the oddity of having the lights on for a morning contest.  The game was played in a light rain that persisted throughout, but the two teams completed the game just as the heavier rain moved in.
Millikin jumped out to an early advantage with a five run first inning.  Millikin was up 7-0 at the end three innings.  The Bluejays scored three in the fourth inning, but Millikin answered with two in fifth.   Elmhurst made things interesting with a four run top of the seventh inning that made it a 9-7 Big Blue lead.  Millikin again answered the challenge scoring five in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Millikin got contributions up and down its lineup.  Mason Bruce was 3-3 with three RBIs.  Keith Askins was 3-4 with three RBI.  Seth Coffey and Devin Crews each had three hits for Millikin.  Adam Peters with 2-3 with three RBIs.  Luke Azzarelli had two hits and Andrew Huss had two RBIs.
Owen Pulver earned his second win the season pitching seven solid innings.  Ben Peters pitched a perfect eighth and ninth inning for the Big Blue.
Ben Havel led the Bluejays going 3-4 with four RBIs including a two run home run.
Millikin is now 13-9, 2-6 while Elmhurst goes to 14-10, 3-5.
The Big Blue will travel to North Central on April 12.
