Millikin Women Fall at Wheaton

         Playing its fourth straight road game in the last week, the Millikin women's basketball team lost to conference co-leader Wheaton College 86-75 on January 14 in Wheaton, Illinois.
         Wheaton led most of the first half holding a 23-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter and building a 39-33 lead at halftime.  Millikin battled back in the third quarter and tied the game at 53-53 on a three-pointer by Cassie Somers.  Wheaton then pushed back out to a 61-56 lead.  Millikin's Devin Curry hit two straight three-point baskets to end the third quarter and give the Big Blue a 62-61 lead.  Wheaton used an 18-4 run in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to take control of the game.  The Thunder run put them up 79-68 with 4:05 left in the game.  Four Millikin turnovers helped spur the Thunder run.
         Millikin hit 43 percent from the field and hit on 65 percent from three- point range.  Millikin was 7-8 from beyond the arc in the second half.  Wheaton hit on 40 percent of its shots, but had a 45-36 rebounding edge.  Millikin committed 13 turnovers compared to five for the Thunder.
         Curry led Millikin with 20 points.  Emily Schultz added 19 and Somers finished with 15.  Yanni Saddler had 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists.  Senior Rachael Weber had a team high eight rebounds and five assists.
         Katie McDaniel led Wheaton with 23 points and seven rebounds.  Elle Zeller scored 15.
         The win maintains Wheaton's first place tie in the conference with Augustana College.  Wheaton is now 11-3, 5-1.  Millikin has now lost five in a row and falls to 7-9, 1-6.
         Millikin will be back in action on January 21 hosting Augustana.
