Millikin Swimmers Defeat North Central, Lose to Illinois Wesleyan

The Millikin University men's and women's swimming team hosted a double dual meet featuring College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) opponents Illinois Wesleyan and North Central. On the women's side, Millikin defeated North Central 79-78 and fell to Illinois Wesleyan 125-54. The Titans defeated North Central 125-45. In the men's completion, the Big Blue downed the Cardinals 108-56 and lost to Titans 125-64. Illinois Wesleyan defeated the North Central 137-69.

In the women's competition, Millikin's Sami Battle was a double event winner in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke, with times of 24.55 and 1:01.61. Felicity Speirs completed a tough double of the 400 IM finishing third with a time of 5:30.13 and the 500 Freestyle coming in third again with a time of 5:50.94. Caroline Lodovisi placed second in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:03.71. Battle, Lodovisi, Speirs and Brooke Brasile teamed up to place third in the 400 Medley Relay.

On the men's side, the 400 Medley relay quartet of Cole Jones, Patrick Lewellyan, Cameron Lee, and Keegan Duesterhaus came in second with a time of 3:56.82. Lewellyan also came in third for the 200 Freestyle in a time of 1:59.34, and won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.67. Jones was the runner up in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke, turning in a 50 time of 23.38 and Breaststroke time of 1:06.92. Spencer McGowan finished third in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 56.91. Lee completed the tough 400 IM and 500 Free double, finishing second in the IM with a time of 5:01.62 and fifth in the 500 with a time of 5:29.85. Duesterhaus was the event winner for the 100 Backstroke in a time of 1:00.28. The foursome of Duesterhaus, Eric Curtis, Matthew Vangunten, and Tyler Via combined to place second in the 200 Freestyle relay to close out the meet with a time of 1:39.07.

The Big Blue are back in action on Saturday, January 28 with a home meet vs Knox and Eureka. The Big Blue will honor the graduating senior class at 12:50 with competition starting at 1 p.m.
