Big Blue Fall to Titans

          The Millikin men's basketball team's bid to win on Illinois Wesleyan's home court for the second straight year came up just short as the Big Blue lost to the Titans 73-64 on January 4 at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
          The teams played almost identical games in the first halves with the Titans holding a 37-36 advantage.  Both teams hit on 52 percent from the field in the half with the Titans holding the edge with one more three pointer than the Big Blue.  Millikin started the second half strong and took a 43-40 lead with 16:58 left in the game on a three point play by freshman Logan Bader.  Illinois Wesleyan answered with an 8-0 run to take a 50-43 advantage with 12:42 remaining.  Millikin stayed close the rest of the way pulling to with four, but the Titans always had an answer.  Illinois Wesleyan's biggest lead of the game was at 13 points.
          Illinois Wesleyan hit on 47 percent from the field while Millikin converted on 41 percent.  The Titans went 9-26 (35 percent) from three point range while the Big Blue hit on 6-19 (32 percent).  Wesleyan was 14-20 from the line with Millikin going 10-13.  The Titans had a slight rebounding advantage at 36-33. 
          Freshman Zach Fisher led Millikin with 11 points.  Nathan Lovekamp added 10.  Tyler Pygon had nine points, six rebounds and five assists.
          Andy Stempel led the way for the Titans with 18 points.  Brady Rose added 15.
          Illinois Wesleyan is now 10-3, 2-2 while Millikin goes to 2-10, 0-3.
          Millikin will travel to Carroll College on January 4 for its first matchup with the Pioneers since they rejoined the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) this season.
