Millikin Women Fall to Illinois Wesleyan

          The Millikin women's basketball team lost a conference contest to Illinois Wesleyan University 81-74 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois on January 4.
          The game was a tight contest all the way to the end.  The game was tied at 16-16 after one quarter and the Big Blue had a 38-32 advantage at the half.  Millikin jumped out to a nine point lead early in the third quarter before the Titans mounted a comeback.  Illinois Wesleyan had a 13-0 run capped off by a Maddie Merritt three pointer to take the lead at 47-43 with 4:40 left in the third quarter.  Millikin re-grouped and went back ahead 50-49 on a Mikayla Gilbert basket with 2:57 left in the third.  The game's seventh and final tie came at 50-50 before the Titans jumped out to a 59-54 advantage at the end of the third quarter.  Illinois Wesleyan's biggest lead of the fourth quarter was eight points and the Big Blue pulled to with one at 66-65 on a Devin Curry basket and free throw with five minutes left in the game.  The Titans converted down the stretch and held on for the win.
          Millikin shot 54 percent from the field including going 8-16 from three point range.  Illinois Wesleyan hit on only 35 percent from the field, but converted on 25-30 (83 percent) from the free throw line.  Millikin was only 8-17 (47 percent) from the line.
The Titans had a 44-33 rebounding advantage and forced Millikin into 20 turnovers while committing on nine.
          Yanni Saddler led Millikin with 23 points.  Devin Curry had 18 points, five rebound and five assists.  Gilbert had a career high 17 points and five rebounds. 
          Rebekah Ehresman led Illinois Wesleyan with 26 points and seven rebounds.  Merritt added 23 points.
          Millikin is now 7-5, 1-3 while Illinois Wesleyan improves to 7-6, 2-1.
          The Big Blue will be back in action on Saturday traveling to Carroll University for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
