Millikin Women Lose at Washington University-St. Louis

          The Millikin women's basketball team lost at fourth ranked Washington University-St. Louis 77-58 on January 9 in St. Louis.  The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 17, but was postponed due to icy road conditions.  The Bears improved to 11-1 while Millikin falls to 7-7.    
Things looked promising for the Big Blue for much of the first half.  Millikin stayed close in the first quarter before Washington University-St. Louis' Ereka Hunt hit a three-pointer to end the period and put the Bears up 17-11.  The Big Blue rallied early in the second quarter and held its own until the final two minutes and 30 seconds of the half when Washington University-St. Louis used a 9-0 run to go to the halftime locker room up 32-18.  Millikin struggled shooting in the first half hitting only 26 percent.  Washington University-St. Louis hit on 40 percent of its first half shoots and held a plus seven rebounding margin.
          The Bears maintained its advantage in the second half connecting on 47.5 percent from the field for the game while holding Millikin to 33 percent from the field.  Washington University-St. Louis won the rebounding battle 42-31.
          Junior Haley Toohill led Millikin in scoring with 11 points.  Lauren Moses scored 10 points and had a team high seven rebounds.  Devin Curry added 10 points and Emily Schultz scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds.  Senior guard Rachael Weber had five assists and five rebounds.
          Madeline Homoly led Washington University-St. Louis with 13 points and eight rebounds.
          Washington University-St. Louis entered the game ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in the WBCA Coaches Poll and fifth in the D3hoops.com.
          Millikin will play at Elmhurst College on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.  Wednesday's game will be the third of four road games for the Big Blue played in a one week span.
