Millikin Volleyball Split Pair of Matches

          The 14th ranked Millikin volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Midwest Invitational hosted by Calvin College and Hope College on October 13-14.
          In its opening match on Friday at Calvin in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Millikin defeated Kean University 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-11).  Seniors Alora Goodey and Erin Syversen each had 12 kills for Millikin. Goodey added three blocks while Syversen had
eight digs and one service ace.  Marissa McElroy had nine kills and three blocks.
Emily Mihalkanin had 38 set assists and eight digs.  Meredith Artime had a team high
21 digs.
          Sara Ridgway had six kills for Kean.
The Big Blue's second match featured a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional
Championship Match with Millikin facing sixth ranked Calvin.  This year's contest was another epic battle with the Big Blue falling 3-2.  The Crusaders won the first set 25-21.  Millikin then answered back taking the next two sets 25-23 and 26-24.  Calvin took the final two sets 25-16 and 15-9.    
          Syversen had 23 kills and nine digs to lead the Millikin attack.  Goodey had 19 kills and McElroy added 11.  Mihalkanin had 58 set assist along with 11 digs.  Artime had 36 digs for the Big Blue. 
          Sarah DeVries led Calvin with 16 kills followed by Anna Kamp with 15.
          Millikin goes to 18-6 while Calvin improves to 17-3.
          Millikin will play twice on Saturday at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
