Millikin Women Lose to Carroll

          The Millikin women's basketball team dropped a home conference matchup 69-65 to Carroll University on December 9 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin had a 20-14 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime up 34-31.
After three quarters, Millikin had built a 10-point lead at 56-46.  Carroll outscored Millikin 23-9 in the fourth quarter to cap off the comeback victory.  A three-pointer by Mallory Olszak with 2:39 remaining gave Carroll the lead at 61-60.  The Pioneers pushed the advantage out to five points before a Yanni Saddler three pulled Millikin to with two at 65-63 with 1:05 remaining.  After Carroll went one for two at the free throw line, Devin Curry hit two free throws to make it 66-65 with 46 seconds remaining.  A Rachel Van Sluys basket with 21 seconds left in the game gave Carroll the edge they needed to pull out the victory.
          Millikin shot 41 percent from the field, but went 2-9 in the fourth quarter.  The Pioneers hit on 43 percent from the field including hitting 61.5 percent (8-13) in the fourth quarter.  Millikin won the rebounding battle 36-34.  The Big Blue were hurt by 24 turnovers to only 12 by Carroll.
          Curry led Millikin with 21 points and six rebounds.  Saddler had 14 points and five boards.  Emily Schultz added 12 points and Haley Toohill had 10.
          Van Sluys led Carroll with 15 points.
          Millikin is now 3-4, 0-3 while Carroll goes to 2-6, 1-1.
