Millikin Falls to First Place Wheaton

          The Millikin women's basketball team lost to conference co-leader Wheaton College 68-52 on February 15 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          The contest was a low scoring defensive battle with each team fighting for every point it made.  Millikin lead after the first quarter 10-8 holding Wheaton to 21 percent from the field in the period.  The Thunder regrouped and pulled out to a 30-21 advantage at the half.  Millikin stayed close in the second half, but couldn't generate enough offense to stage a comeback.  Wheaton shot 38 percent from the field for the game while Millikin managed to make only 32 percent of its shots.  Wheaton blocked six Millikin shots and forced the Big Blue into 13 turnovers.  Millikin had three blocks of its own and forced Wheaton into nine turnovers.  Wheaton won the rebounding battle 45-38.
          Emily Schultz led Millikin with 19 points, five rebounds and two steals.  Devin Curry added nine points.  Lauren Moses had a team high 11 rebounds along with four points.
          Katie McDaniel led Wheaton with 17 points.  Devin Kyler added 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
          Millikin falls to 9-14, 3-11 while Wheaton improves to 19-4, 12-2.  The win keeps the Thunder in a first place tie with Illinois Wesleyan.
          Millikin will host Carthage College on Saturday, February 18 at 5 p.m.
