Millikin Women Edge Carthage

          The Millikin women's basketball team used a Lauren Moses free throw with two seconds left in the game to defeat Carthage College 67-66 on February 18 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          The game was a tight contest throughout.  The game was tied at 18-18 at the end of the first quarter.  Millikin pulled out to a 38-32 lead at halftime.  The Lady Reds answered in the third quarter and the game was tied at 50-50 at the end of three periods. 
          In the fourth quarter, Carthage built a 62-58 lead with 3:19 remaining.  Millikin fought back and a Moses jumper game Millikin a 63-62 advantage with 2:03 left in the game.  Autumn Kalis would put the Lady Reds up 64-63, but Emily Schultz got the lead back for Millikin with a basket at 1:02 left in the game to make it 65-64.  Devin Curry hit a free throw with 37 left on the clock to give Millikin a 66-64 advantage.  Rachel Szydlowski scored with 23 seconds left to tie the game at 66-66.  Yanni Saddler missed the potential game winner, but Moses grabbed the rebound and was foul setting the stage for the winning free throw.
          Millikin shot 39 percent from the field and went 4-14 from three point range.  The Big Blue were 13-19 (68 percent) from the free throw line.  Carthage shot 44 percent and went 8-17 from three point range.  The Lady Reds were 6-10 at the free throw line.  Carthage won the rebounding battle 41-34.  Millikin forced Carthage into 20 turnovers while committing only nine.
          Saddler led the way for Millikin with 18 points.  Schultz added 14.  Moses had 11 and a team high nine rebounds.  Curry was in double figures in scoring with 11.
          Szydlowski and Madie Kaelber each had 16 points for Carthage.  Szydlowski 10 10 rebounds.
          Millikin is now 10-14, 4-11 while Carthage goes to 13-11, 7-8.
          Millikin will play its final game of the season on Tuesday when they host Elmhurst College at 7 p.m.
