Millikin Baseball Opens Season

          The Millikin baseball team opened the 2017 season with a 4-3 extra inning loss at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas on February 18.  The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended due to darkness in the ninth inning tied at 3-3.
          Millikin took advantage of an Eagles error jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the third innings.  Ozarks answered by with two runs in the bottom of the inning stringing together a triple, double and single.  Millikin's Devin Crews homered in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2, but the University of the Ozarks answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to pull ahead 3-2.  Millikin tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth when Mason Bruce scored on a wild pitch.  The Eagles scored the winning run in the 11th after three Millikin errors.
          The game marked the first time the Big Blue were on a baseball diamond this season and the Millikin defense was shaky committing seven errors.
          Bruce and Jake Drada each had two hits for Millikin.
          Eagle leadoff hitter Justin Crider had three hits and scored two runs.
          Millikin's Ben Peters took the loss despite throwing five strong innings in relief allowing only two hits and striking out five.
          Julian Gutierrez is 2-3 with a two run homerun for Millikin in the suspend game that will be completed on Sunday prior to the scheduled third and final game of the series.
