Big Blue Softball Drops Two to Open Florida Trip

          The Millikin softball team dropped two games to open its annual Spring Break trip to Florida on March 10 in Clermont, Florida.
          The Big Blue lost game one to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 10-8.  Millikin jumped out to a 5-1 lead after three innings, but RPI scored three runs in the fourth and six runs in the sixth to take the lead.  Trailing 10-5 in the seventh inning, Millikin mounted a comeback, but the rally was cut short after scoring three runs.
          Junior first baseman Chelsea Eads was 4-4 for the Big Blue with four RBIs.  Junior catcher Alyssa Voegele went 2-4 with a homerun and four RBIs.  
          In game two, Millikin lost to Webster University 2-1 in eight innings. Webster scored in the second inning, but the Big Blue tied the game in the fifth.  Webster scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.  Both of the Webster runs resulted from Millikin errors.
Brooke Heimerl was 2-3 for Millikin driving home the lone Big Blue run with a bases loaded walk.  Freshman Gracie Brookens pitched well despite taking the loss throwing seven plus innings allowing seven hits while striking out four. 
Morg Mansur was the winning pitcher for Webster.  Kat Johnson and Ka Cardenas each had two hits for the Gorlocks.
Millikin will return to action on Saturday with two more game.
