Millikin Softball Wins Twice

          While Central Illinois battled a last blast of winter, the Millikin softball teams scored two victories in the Florida sunshine on March 13 in Clermont, Florida.
          In game one, Millikin defeated Macalester 4-0.  The Big Blue did all of its scoring early with a single run in the first and second inning and two more in the third.
          Marissa Padilla opened the game with a single and scored on a base hit by Brooke HeimerlKalli Farmer opened the second with a single and scored on a RBI ground out by Nicole Koch.  Millikin's first two batters reached in the third inning.  Kailey Lyons opened the inning with a walk and later scored on an RBI single from Chelsea EadsAlyssa Voegele singled and scored the Big Blue's final run a sacrifice fly from Kalli Farmer.
          Freshman Gracie Brookens shutout Macalester allowing two hits in seven innings while striking out four.
          In game two, the Big Blue knocked off Ohio Wesleyan 8-2.  The Big Blue used a five run seventh inning to break open a 3-2 contest.         
          Koch led the offensive attack for Millikin going 3-4 with two RBIs.  Kelsey Farmer went 2-3 and drove home three runs.  Voegele had two hits including a first inning homerun.  Lyons and Kalli Farmer each had two hits for the Big Blue.
          Cathy Lebryk was the winning pitcher throwing five and one third innings allowing five hits and two unearned runs.  Koch earned the save throwing the final inning and two-thirds allowing only one hit.
          Millikin is now 4-4 on the year while Ohio Wesleyan goes to 1-1.
          The Big Blue will play Lake Forest and Trinity (Conn.) on March 14 starting at 9 a.m. ET.
