Millikin Softball Wins Twice in Florida

          The Millikin softball team picked up two wins at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida on March 17.
In game one, Millikin defeated St. Mary's College (Ind.) 6-0 behind the shutout pitching of Cathy Lebryk.  Lebryk allowing only five hits while striking out one in seven innings of work.
          The top of the Big Blue order did much of the offensive damage.  Freshman leadoff hitter Kailey Lyons was 2-4 followed by number two hitter senior Marissa Padilla who was 3-4 with a triple and three runs scored.  Alyssa Voegele, the number three batter in the Big Blue lineup, was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Chelsea Eads had was 2-4 with three RBIs.
          The Big Blue's second game victory was 5-3 over Bethany College.  Millikin jumped out to a 2-0 advance in the third inning on a two run double by Padilla.  After Bethany tied the game in the fourth, Millikin answered with two runs in the fifth on a two run homerun from Voegele.  Nicole Koch doubled home Millikin's final run in the sixth inning.
          Freshman Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher throwing five and a third innings allowing one earned run on four hits.  Koch picked up the save in relief.
          Erica Amoroso and Aubrey Baehr each had two hits for Bethany.
          Millikin will complete its Florida trip on Saturday, March 18 facing Lawrence University and Carleton College starting at 8 a.m. CT.  The Big Blue will then return to Decatur to prepare for the home opener of Millikin's new Workman Family Softball Field set for Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m. when the Big Blue face
MacMurray College.
