Millikin Softball Splits To End Florida Trip

         The Millikin softball team split its final two games of its annual Florida trip on March 18 in Clermont, Florida.  Millikin defeated Lawrence University 9-1 and then dropped its final game 1-0 to Carleton College.  Millikin is now 9-7 on the season.
         In game one, Millikin won 9-1 scoring the game ending runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Kailey Lyons and Marissa Padilla were each 2-3 at the top of the Millikin order.  Lyons tripled and drove home two.  Padilla had one RBI.  Alyssa Voegele had a three run double for Millikin in the fourth inning.
         Freshman Gracie Brookens earned the pitching victory throwing five innings allowing four hits and one run.
         The Big Blue lost a pitchers duel in game two.  The game's only run came in the fifth inning when Natalie Maurice and Sam Kile each doubled for Carleton.
         Kile held Millikin to two hits in seven innings with each striking out four gaining the pitching victory.
         Millikin got solid pitching from Brooke Henze and Cathy Lebryk.  Henze took the loss despite allowing only two hits and one earned run in three innings of work.  Lebryk threw three scoreless innings allowing three hits.
         Millikin will be off until Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m. when they host MacMurray College in the opening of the Big Blue's new Workman Family Softball Field.
