Big Blue Baseball Wins Home Opener

          The Millikin baseball team opened the home portion of its season with an 8-6 win over Wheaton College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois on March 31.  The Big Blue are now 12-4, 1-1 while Wheaton goes to 11-7, 1-1.
          Millikin jumped out to an early lead when Jake Stanton hit a three-run homerun in the second inning. 
          A Clay Morrison run scoring single in the third and a John McKenna homerun pulled the Thunder to 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
          Millikin's Devin Crews would double to open the fourth and score on a single from Hunter Wenstrom.  The Big Blue went up 5-2 in the fifth on a RBI double from Julian Gutierrez.
          Leading 5-3 in the sixth, Millikin added two insurance runs in the inning.  Wenstrom had a run scoring double and Garrett Brachbill had a RBI single.  Millikin's final run was driven home by Stanton on a ground out. 
          Wheaton staged a ninth inning rally scoring two runs, but Millikin closer Ben Peters got a strike out and foul out to end the game with the tying runs on base.
          Wenstrom was 3-4 with two RBIs.  Crew was 2-3 and scored three runs.  Brachbill also had two hits.
          Logan Talkington improved to 4-0 on the season throwing five and two-thirds innings allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out five.
          Morrison and McKenna each had three hits to lead the Thunder attack.
          The two teams will meet on Saturday, April 1 in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
