Millikin Baseball Drops Doubleheader to #22 Augustana

The Millikin baseball team lost a home doubleheader to #22 Augustana College on Friday, April 14 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.  The Vikings won game one 11-3 and they rallied to take game two 5-4.
In game one, Augustana broke open a 3-3 game with three runs in the seventh and four runs in the eight.  Control issues spelled trouble for Millikin with Big Blue pitchers issuing 10 walks and two hit batters.
Millikin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run homerun by Jake Drada.  After Augustana scored to make it 3-1, a Seth Coffey RBI single gave Millikin a 3-1 lead after four.  Mason Bruce went 3-4 to lead the Millikin attack.  Julian Gutierrez and Luke McConnell each had two hits for Millikin.
Carter Amundsen and Mitch Ruh led the Viking attack. Amundsen was 2-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs.  Ruh was 3-4 with four RBIs.
Millikin again jumped out to an early lead in game two.  A Drada run scoring single and an RBI double for McConnell made it 2-0 after one inning of play.  After Augustana scored on a Ruh homerun in the fourth, Millikin added two more in the bottom of the inning to go up 4-1.  Devin Crews and Gutierrez had run scoring singles in the inning.
The story of the game for Millikin was freshman pitcher Matt Frank making his first collegiate start.  Frank threw seven and one-third innings allowing five hits and two earned run while striking out five.
After scoring a run in the eighth, the Vikings won the game in the ninth inning.  A two run homer by Peter Doughty tied the game at 4-4.  After two Millikin errors, Ryan Kairis had the game winning hit with an RBI single.
Gutierrez had three hits for Millikin with Keith Askins going 2-4.
Millikin is now 13-12, 2-9 while Augustana improves to 20-7, 6-5.  The Big Blue will be at home on Saturday, April 15 hosting North Park in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
