Millikin Baseball Sweeps North Park

         The Millikin baseball team swept a home conference doubleheader from North Park University on April 15 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.
         Millikin won game won 8-7 in 10 innings.  The Blue Big jumped ahead with a four run first inning and added single runs in the third, seventh, ninth and 10th innings.  North Park battled back with a four run fourth inning, one in the eighth and two in the ninth.
          Millikin lead 7-6 headed to the top of the ninth innings, but the Vikings rallied to take the lead on a two run single from Seth Dvorak.
         The Big Blue tied the game in the bottom of the ninth.  Julian Gutierrez drew a two out walk and scored on a double by Jake Drada.  Millikin pushed across the game winner in the when Devin Crews had a walk off game winning single scoring pinch runner Bobby Neylon.
         Crews was 4-6 for the Big Blue.  Gutierrez went 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.  Drada and Hunter Wenstrom each had two hits.  Zak Owens earned the win in relief throwing one and one-third innings without allowing a hit.  Starter Max Paolicchi went eight and two-thirds innings allowing 10 hits and five earned runs while striking out four.
         Dvorak led the Vikings' attack going 3-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.  Anthony Bragg and Doug Michalak each had two hits.
         Millikin jumped out to another early lead in game two scoring three in the first inning and building an 8-0 advantage after four innings.  The Big Blue again had to hold off another North Park rally winning game two 9-7.
         Crews continued his hot hitting for Millikin going 3-4 including a double and two RBIs.  Mason Bruce was 2-5 including a homerun in the eighth inning that pushed Millikin's lead to 9-7.  Seth Coffey was 2-4.  Gutierrez had a three run homer in the first inning and ended the game with five RBIs.  Drada also homered for Millikin.
         Gage Eller earned the win for Millikin throwing five and one-third innings allowing four hits and four earned runs while striking out five.  Ben Peters earned his fourth save of the season pitching a perfect ninth inning.
         Millikin is now 15-12, 4-9 while North Park goes to 10-19, 3-10.  The two teams will play again on April 19 at 5 p.m. in Chicago.
