Big Blue Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Elmhurst

         The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader at Elmhurst College on April 22 in Elmhurst, Illinois.  Millikin won game one 4-2 with the Bluejays winning game two 6-5.
         In game one, Millikin scored an unearned run to jump out to an early 1-0 lead, but Elmhurst tied the game in the bottom of the first.  Elmhurst took at 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the seventh, but Millikin tied the game in the eighth when Mason Bruce doubled to open the inning and scored on a Jake Drada sacrifice fly.  Bruce went 2-4 in the game.
         Millikin won the game with two runs in the ninth scoring on a Devin Crews RBI fielder's choice and a throwing error by the Bluejays catcher.  Millikin had only five hits in the game, but took full advantage of two Elmhurst errors.
         Millikin got solid pitching from starter Max Paolicchi who threw six innings allowing six hits and two earned runs.  Adam Zuk got the win in relief throwing one and two-thirds scoreless innings allowing only one hit.  Ben Peters picked up the save with a perfect ninth inning.
         A.J. Compton led the Carthage attack going 2-4.
         Elmhurst took the early lead in game two jumping out to a 3-0 advantage.  Millikin battled the entire game and tied the game at 5-5 in the eighth inning on a RBI double from Julian Gutierrez.  Elmhurst then won the game on a walk off run scoring single from Evan Berliner in the ninth inning.
         Keith Askins led the Millikin attack in game two going 3-5.  Gutierrez had two doubles and an RBI.  Bruce had two hits and two RBIs.  Jake Stanton, Andrew Huss and Anthony Bryan each had two hits for Millikin.  Seth Coffey had two RBIs.
         Berliner was 4-5 in game two for the Bluejays with two RBIs.  Ben Havel was 3-5 for Elmhurst.
         Millikin will play a doubleheader at North Central College on Sunday, April 23.
