Millikin Softball Sweeps Carroll Takes over First Place

The Millikin softball team swept a doubleheader at Carroll University on April 22 in Waukesha, Wisconsin.  The wins coupled with a pair of Carthage losses to Illinois Wesleyan give Millikin sole possession of first place heading into Sunday's final doubleheader of the year at Carthage.  Millikin is now 29-9 overall and 13-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).
Millikin won game one 1-0 behind the pitching of junior Cathy Lebryk.  Lebryk scattered six hits over seven innings shutting out the Pioneers.  Freshman Kalli Farmer drove in the game's only run with an RBI single.  Farmer was 2-3 in the game.
Millikin took the second game 9-1 in five innings making the most of seven hits and three Carroll errors.
Farmer led the Big Blue attack going 2-2 with a double, two runs scored and one run batted in.  Marissa Padilla was 1-2 with a two run double.  Alexis Dockins has 1-3 with a two-run single.
Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher allowing two hits and one unearned run with three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Millikin has a two game lead heading into the regular season finale on Sunday.  The Big Blue have secured a spot in the CCIW Tournament, but are shooting for the conference regular season title and the right to host the CCIW Tournament.  Home field advantage could benefit Millikin as the Big Blue are 14-0 this season at its new home Workman Softball Field.
