Millikin Softball Sweeps North Central

         The Millikin softball team remained undefeated in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play sweeping a doubleheader from North Central College on April 8 at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois.
         Millikin rallied to win game one 4-3 and then took game two 8-0.  The Big Blue are now 6-0 in CCIW play.  The last time Millikin opened conference play going 6-0 was in 1989 when the Big Blue went 11-0 in CCIW action.  Millikin is now 8-0 at the Workman Family Softball Field.
         In game one, the Cardinals opened the scoring in the first inning when Samantha Phelps doubled and scored on a RBI single from Molly Price.  Millikin tied the game in the second as Kalli Farmer doubled and scored on a ground out from Brooke Heimerl.
         Millikin went up 2-1 in the sixth with Heimerl scoring a ground out form Jordan Themer.  North Central then took the lead in the top of the seventh with two runs.  Phelps and Brooke Kehoe had back-to-back doubles to score the first run.  Kehoe scored on an RBI single from Anna Seffernick.
         Millikin won the game in the bottom of the seventh.  Marissa Padilla reached with a one out single.  Farmer then drove home the tying run with a triple.  Chelsea Eads won the game with a walk off RBI single.
         Padilla was 3-4 in the game.  Farmer in 2-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored.  Eads and Nicole Koch each had two hits.  Cathy Lebryk was the winning pitcher improving to 9-3 on the season.
         In game two, the Big Blue scored single runs in each of the first three innings.  The Big Blue then delivered the knockout punch with a five run sixth inning.
         Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher throwing six innings allowing five hits while striking out one.
         Kailey Lyons was 2-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.  Heimerl was 2-2 with two runs scored.  Alexis Dockins was 2-3 and Alyssa Voegele had three RBIs.
         Millikin plays at North Park on April 9.
