Big Blue Softball Splits Road Doubleheader

The Millikin softball team split a road doubleheader at North Park University on April 8 in Chicago.  Millikin won game one 4-1 and lost the second game 2-1.
In game one, the Big Blue scored twice in the fourth inning to jump in front.  Kalli Farmer opened the inning with a single and scored on an Alexis Dockins RBI.  Jordan Themer drove home the second run in the inning.  Millikin added a run in the fifth when Alyssa Voegele doubled and scored later in the inning after a Viking error.  Kalli Farmer's sacrifice fly scored Millikin's final run in the seventh inning.
Marissa Padilla and Brooke Heimerl each had two hits for Millikin.  Cathy Lebryk was the winning pitcher throwing seven innings allowing seven hits and no earned runs while striking out one.  Lebryk is now 10-3 on the season.
Sami Creachbaum led North Park's attack going 2-4 with an RBI.
Millikin jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game two.  Voegele had an RBI single scoring Kailey Lyons who had reached on a single.  Voegele ended the game 2-3.
North Park scored both its runs in the fourth inning.  Ellie Maderfeld opened the inning with a walk.  Kendall Podschweit and Kylee Witt followed with back-to-back doubles to drive home the Viking runs.  The two hits were all Millikin pitcher Gracie Brookens would allow during her seven inning of work.
